Sex Therapy

Comprehensive sexual wellness and intimacy support

Sex therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy that addresses concerns related to sexual function, desire, and intimacy. Through compassionate and non-judgmental guidance, sex therapy helps individuals and couples navigate sexual difficulties, enhance intimacy, and develop healthier relationships with their sexuality.

Common issues addressed include desire discrepancy, pain during intercourse, performance anxiety, sexual trauma recovery, and communication challenges around sex and intimacy. Treatment combines psychoeducation, communication skills training, and therapeutic interventions tailored to each client's unique needs.

The goal is to help you reclaim your sexual well-being, deepen intimacy in your relationships, and develop a more authentic and fulfilling sexual life.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for trauma treatment. EMDR therapy helps the brain process and integrate traumatic memories that may be stuck in the nervous system.

Through bilateral stimulation—typically eye movements—EMDR helps reprocess disturbing memories and reduce their emotional charge. This powerful technique can provide relief from PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and other trauma-related symptoms.

EMDR is particularly effective for sexual trauma and can help individuals heal from experiences that continue to impact their sexual functioning and intimate relationships.

Erectile Dysfunction

There is a Solution

Erectile dysfunction (ED) affects millions of men and can stem from physical, psychological, or relational factors. While medical interventions exist, addressing the psychological and relational components is essential for lasting improvement.

Treatment combines therapeutic approaches to explore performance anxiety, stress, relationship dynamics, and underlying psychological factors. We work to restore confidence, reduce anxiety, and enhance intimate connection.

Many cases of ED have significant psychological components, particularly in younger men where pornography use may play a role. Through therapy, men can regain natural sexual function and develop healthier patterns of arousal and intimacy.

Vaginismus Treatment

Hope to Heal

Vaginismus is an involuntary tensing or contracting of muscles around the vagina, making penetration painful or impossible. This condition can be deeply distressing, but it is treatable with the right therapeutic approach.

Treatment combines physical therapy techniques with psychological support to address both the physical response and any underlying emotional factors such as anxiety, trauma, or fear. Through gradual desensitization, relaxation techniques, and therapeutic processing, women can reclaim comfort and intimacy.

Many women have successfully overcome vaginismus through specialized therapy. There is hope, and healing is possible. You don't have to live with this pain.

Energy Work

Holistic approaches to healing

Integrating energy work into therapy offers a holistic approach to healing that addresses mind, body, and spirit. These practices help regulate the nervous system, cultivate mindfulness, and deepen self-awareness.

Energy work approaches recognize that sexuality and trauma live not just in our minds but in our bodies and energy systems.

These complementary approaches support traditional therapy by helping clients develop greater body awareness, release stored tension and trauma, and cultivate a more integrated sense of self.

Nationwide Coaching

Remote support available across the United States

Professional coaching services are available nationwide for those seeking guidance on sexual wellness, relationship dynamics, and personal growth. While coaching differs from therapy, it offers valuable support for individuals working on specific goals and challenges.

Mind-Body Connection in Sexual Healing

True recovery and emotional wellness require looking past isolated symptoms to honor the profound connection between thoughts, emotions, relational history, and physical sensations. At Congruent Sea Psychotherapy, I weave somatic awareness into sexual therapy, gently guiding individuals towards a grounded, authentic self-understanding. Unspoken emotional friction, chronic daily stress, internalized societal expectations, and hidden nervous system trauma often manifest directly as physical tension or sensory shutdown.

Slowing down the therapeutic process allows my clients to track subtle bodily cues and gradually release internalized pressure and shame with self-compassion. Healing sexual abuse means exploring the emotional, psychological, relational, and physical dynamics that quietly influence intimate responses.

Relationships & Intimacy Gaps in Sexual Abuse Recovery

Intimacy naturally thrives in an atmosphere defined by safety, emotional presence, honest vulnerability, and mutual respect. Yet many couples experience painful distance when sexual desires, communication styles, personal boundaries, or emotional needs begin to drift apart. Over time, these subtle mismatches cultivate unspoken resentments and emotional distance. Sometimes sexual abuse survivors find sexual intimacy so threatenting that is easier to just never have sex, even if that means saying no to sexual intimacy with a caring and loving partner. For the partner sexual rejection often begins to feel like a unilateral rejection in the partnership and this can create fears of abandonment and wanting to fix sex for both the lover and the beloved. In my experience, sexually healing is more about integration and becoming congruent with split off parts of the self than "fixing." When we try to control or fix ourselves or others the outcome is usually frustration and despair.

As a Santa Monica based sex therapist, our work together will untangle these complex dynamics without resorting to blame or criticism. Whether you seek individual work or couples therapy, I offer grounded communication strategies, active listening methods, somatic grounding exercises, and emotional attunement skills, which allow and foster a return to safety and emotional congruency.

Understanding Vaginismus, Santa Monica Therapy

Healthy sex feels restorative, deeply comforting, and naturally fulfilling rather than painful or anxiety-inducing. Women that experience vaginismus are often left feeling frustrated, fearful, and ashamed. Sometimes vaginismus is brought about by a hormonal imbalance, lack of sex education, a natural part of the aging process, a fear of sex, or a medical issue. Regardless of the orgin, part of healing from vaginismus is learning to hear what your body is trying to tell you. Penetrative sex is not the only way to experience sexual pleasure and many of the clients I have treated who have experienced their vaginal muscles tense or contract uncontrollably when they are about to have intercourse, find that inviting in a sense of sexual pleasure can be a refreshing step towards healing.

Vaginismus is not your fault. It is so important to move away from self-blame and towards self-impowerment. Many women with vagismismus for a visit to the OBGYN impossible and using tampons out of the question. Just remember, you are not alone, and healing is possible.

As a sex therapist, I provide a non-judgmental environment to address the somatic, emotional, relational, and psychological factors behind pelvic tension. Combining progressive muscle relaxation, breathwork, gentle desensitization methods, and supportive therapeutic dialogue helps clients release stored panic, reduce muscle guarding, regain physical comfort, and rebuild trust in their bodies.

FAQ

What should I expect during my initial therapy session?

The first session is designed to be a gentle, low-pressure space where we get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. We will explore your current challenges, personal history, goals, and any physical or emotional symptoms you are experiencing. This initial conversation helps us determine if my approach is the right fit for your needs and allows us to begin shaping a collaborative treatment plan tailored to your journey. All sessions are held viritually; I have found this to be both easier for my patients and equally, if not more impactful than face-to-face sessions.
